Willie Jack & the Northern Light
December 7 @ 9:00 pm
Featuring guests Dee Maple Band.
Willie Jack & the Northern Light has been playing it’s own style of music for over 10 years bringing fun times and fine musicianship to festivals, clubs, special events and gatherings throughout the Susquehanna Valley and beyond. Drawing heavily from a multitude of influences and styles, yet flavored with their own sense of regional expression, their genre has been labeled Jam, Experimental and Americana.
Coming from a gifted musical family, Jeff Oshetski fronts the band on lead guitar, harmonica, and vocals. Jeff has hosted numerous open mic affairs, and currently hosts the weekly event at the Pub 2 in Danville. Equal virtuosity can be heard whether he is playing acoustic or electric, and he has a strong soulful voice.
Joe ‘OJ’ Raup formed the band with Oshetski and plays rhythm guitar and adds clear vocal harmonies and sweet rhythm accents. Joe also shares most of the songwriting duties with Jeff.
The Bass is handled by Wes Fahringer, who also shares vocals and adds color and flavor during improvisations. He holds down the low end like no other.
Mike Whalen is on keys has really allowed this band to go to another level of improvisation.. Mike can add beautiful piano runs or jump into synthesized funk fills when he and Oshetski share melodies.
National touring and recording artist, Joe Ciarvella, fills out the rhythm section. Joe performed with various members of the Grateful Dead and extended family members while touring with the legendary Dead tribute band, Zen Tricksters. He joined Willie Jack in early 2011. He anchors the band as well as he inspires it…. Joe is a 3rd generation musician and has gaineda unique perspective into music and drums that is felt at every show. “Eat, sleep, and breathe drums/music” is Joe’s mantra. With this chemistry, the band will often journey into what is affectionately called, “Infectious Puerile Boogie” by their fans and friends.
Whether playing acoustic and exploring rural roots or jamming electric and going into experimental realms, Willie Jack and the Northern Light always delivers a fine show. With a loyal multi-generational fan base and positive relationships with other regional musicians, one can never tell what surprises might turn up at a Willie Jack show. It’s ALWAYS a good dance, a good listen and a great time.
